Although it is comparatively new to the West, cosmetic acupuncture has been used in China for thousands of years, to combat signs of aging and to help with various skin conditions. What distinguishes cosmetic  acupuncture from other types of cosmetic treatments is the strong constitutional element. It is a process which is cumulative in its effects, and therefore works better over a number of sessions.

Extremely fine needles designed specifically for this work, are used.  Needling is followed by a facial massage, using base oils and essential oils which are beneficial for the skin. Facial acupuncture is a gentle way to bring more vitality to the face. Clients report that after treatment, family and friends remark on how well they look. The skin glows and they look and feel very relaxed.

Although the focus of treatment is on the face, underlying imbalances within the body's energy system are also treated, so that your general health will benefit.  Stress, pain, worry and strain will show on your face. Although acupuncture cannot take away the causes of these emotions, it can help you to relax deeply and feel calmer. As a result you may find an increased ability to cope.

It is important to add that cosmetic acupuncture is not a replacement for surgery and is in no way comparable to a surgical treatment. It is therefore much more subtle in its effects.  Its benefits are that it is less costly, works on a constitutional level and therefore offers support to general health and well being.

A course of 8-12 treatments is recommended initially, followed by a couple of top-up sessions each subsequent year.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Cosmetic acupuncture is contraindicated for some pituitary disorders, heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, for individuals who have a pacemaker or who have a problem with bleeding or bruising, or who  suffer from migraine headaches. Cosmetic  acupuncture cannot be given during pregnancy, during a bout of cold or flu, during an allergic attack or during an acute herpes outbreak. Please contact me if you are unsure about whether cosmetic acupuncture is suitable for you.

It is important to mention if you have had any cosmetic surgery or other cosmetic procedures, or have had injections of Botox or other fillers, as needling close to these areas may stimulate facial muscles and therefore reduce the effects of the Botox.
